President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday greeted the nation on the eve of Guru Ravidas Jayanti asking people to derive inspiration from the life of the 14th century saint and reformer.
"On the happy occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, let us recall the services of the saint and reformer who devoted his life to the service of India's suffering humanity," the President said in a message.
"May we derive inspiration from Guru Ravidas to rededicate ourselves to eradicate social inequalities," she added.
The birthday of Guru Ravidas on February 7 is celebrated as Ravidas Jayanti every year. In 14th century India, Ravidas, a Dalit by birth, taught monotheistic spirituality and spread the message of equality through emancipation from the Indian caste system.
