ABVP candidates won President, Vice President and Secretary posts in the DUSU election held on Friday. The Congress Party’s students wing NSUI managed to capture one seat in the election.
The joint secretary post went in favour of NSUI.
ABVP candidate Jitender Chaudhary has been elected DUSU president while, Priya Dabas and Neetu Dabas declared elected for the posts vice-president and secretary of DUSU respectively.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) candidate Akshay Kumar won the Joint Secretary seat.
A total 41 candidates were in the fray for this year’s prestigious DUSU election, in which 11 candidates contested for the post of President and remaining fought for the other three posts of Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
The DUSU election has been bastion of ABVP and NSUI but last year a ABVP backed candidate won the election after rejection of nomination papers of ABVP and NSUI candidates.
However, the total turn out in the DUSU election 2010 was 40 percent as traffic snarl due to heavy rain forced students to stay inside the room.
As many as 943 EVMs had been pressed into service for the election. While 111 centres were set up for college elections, 130 were for the DUSU panel election.
Tight security arrangements were made to ensure smooth and peaceful polling and police pickets were set up outside every college where centres were located.
Strict norms of election were in place in line with the Lyngdoh committee recommendations, and administration officials said the campaign was satisfactory.
