As the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) concluded its 50th 'Safety Week' on Sunday iron ore mining workers were urged to follow safety measures to achieve 'zero-mishap'.

"Accidents have been reduced following usage of latest equipment and the aim is zero-mishap," Deputy Director, Mines Safety, Dhanbad, Anup Srivastav said at Meghahatu Buru, about 100 km from Chaibasa in Jharkhand.

Delving into safety measures during work at iron ore mines, he suggested workers to make such measures a practice, particularly drivers fastening safety belts to prevent injury risk.

Srivastav said concerted efforts during the last two decades had reduced mishaps in iron ore mines.

Stating that three mines have got prizes for best safety measures, Executive Director (Raw Material Division-SAIL) Manvendra Kumar Roy said the awards would inspire other mines too.

The occasion also marked several stalls displaying safety various equipment.
