While addressing a rally in Mota Pondha village in Valsad district of south Gujarat,Modi asked Congress "Why Rahul is not coming to Gujarat? People of the state and I want to know the reason. Does he think Gujarat is so bad that he won't tour the state?"
In 2007 Rahul Gandhi had campaigned extensively in Gujarat, but this time it is still not decided whether he would campaign. The election schedule is yet to be announced.
A few days back ,Union Minister for Steel Beni Prasad Verma said that the 2014 polls would in all likelihood be a contest between Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
“Rahul Gandhi will be our candidate in the the next polls. It will be Rahul vs Modi,” he said.
Modi also attacked the Gandhi family on the second day of his campaign 'yatra'. In a dig at Congress's slogan 'Change the direction to change your condition', Modi said Congress's direction was of "dynasty rule".
"Only one family gets importance... If they make someone Prime Minister, he has to go to the family before taking any decision," he said.
"Congress's 'direction' is of nepotism, spreading communalism, divisive politics and not fulfilling promises. We do not want that in Gujarat."
The uncertainty is prevailing over whether Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi would campaign in Gujarat for the coming Assembly polls, BJP said it showed that the Congress leadership in Delhi was resigned to the prospect of defeat.
"I have heard from senior journalists... Rahul Gandhi is not going to campaign in Gujarat elections," BJP women wing president and MP Smruti Irani said, addressing a gathering at this temple town as a part of Chief Minister Narendra Modi's
campaign tour.
"This means, sitting in Delhi, the Congress party has come to the conclusion that it is going to be wiped out in Gujarat," Irani said.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) now stood for 'All India Coal Congress', Modi said, referring to the coal scam, adding that the party had blackened the country's face.
"You would have heard of theft of diamonds, gold, silver, but have you ever heard that somebody took away coal ?Congress
people have stolen coal, worth Rs 2 lakh crore," he said.
He also alleged that Congress "prayed" and performed 'yagnas' for a drought in Gujarat, and now the party was drowned in the rains that arrived late.
Criticising those who objected to use of Swami Vivekananda's name for his yatra, Modi said, "Parties used an Osama Bin Laden duplicate during the campaigning in Bihar elections and everybody remained silent. Now, when I am taking out a rally in the name of Vivekananda, what is their problem?"
Modi's present campaign tour has been named 'Swami Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra'.
