17 trucks of sand seized in Moga

In an operation against illegal mining, police claimed to have seized 17 truck loads of sand in the last 24 hours and arrested 15 persons in this regard.

 

Giving details, Moga SSP Surjit Singh today said police had launched a special drive against sand mafia engaged in illegal mining at river Sutlej basin.

He said in the last one month, more than 80 FIRs had been registered with regard to illegal mining and cases were registered at various police stations, including Dharamkot, Kotisekhan, Fatehgarh Panjtoor.

He said those who were engaged in illegal mining were selling sand to various places, including Sangrur, Mansa, Firozepur and Jalandhar districts.
