Former BJP MP gets seven-year jail term

Former BJP MP Umakant Yadav has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a local court here in a forgery case.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pratibha Saxena held Yadav guilty on Tuesday and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on him.

In 2006, Yadav had got a land registered in his name in Daulatpur Pilkicha village in Shahganj tehsil through forgery by presenting a woman at the time of registration in place of the original owner.

The land owner Geeta Mishra later moved the court on whose order an FIR was lodged against the minister. Yadav, who is currently lodged in Lucknow jail, was MP from Machlishahr in 2006.
