Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday lashed out at the Congress for neglecting development of areas considered to be the party's strongholds.

Addressing an election meeting in this Congress bastion, Mayawati said that had it taken care of development, its leaders would not have to go about addressing meetings at every corner seeking votes.

Asking the electorate to be alert, she said that people should not fall prey to such designs or else they (the Congress) would again push them to slavery.

The BSP President attacked her political opponents saying they were discriminating against the "Bahujan Samaj" and said that her party would form the government on its own.

Mayawati said her party has shown the door to tainted leaders denying tickets to those working against the BSP.

The central government has betrayed the people, she said adding that it failed to take necessary steps for division of the state into four parts despite the special request as it was required for speedy development.

On a sub-quota for Muslims in the backward reservation, she said that Congress is misguding the people on the issue.

Recalling as to how the economic packages demanded by the state have been turned down, she said that the package demanded for restarting the closed industrial units in the Congress strongholds of Amethi, Sultanpur and Rae Bareli were also not provided.
